I love doing my nails and over the years have spent more than I should have on nail products but until last Christmas I’d never owned a glass nail file. I was more a cheap and cheerful nail file kind of person though they did always get lost and worn out way too quickly. The best thing about glass nail files is how well they last, they keep the filing surface and you just have to wipe them with a damp cloth to clean them and you’re ready to go if they get a build up on them.
Until recently I hadn’t heard of Mont Bleu, a company from the Czech Republic who make glass nail files and nail tools that are hand painted and decorated, some with Swarovski crystals. They sent me these pretty nail files and scissors to try and a discount code for you guys if you want to buy anything from them. I’ve had them for a month to try out so I thought I’d do a post on them now I have given them a proper go and seen what they can do.
I realised that I haven’t done a nail look in ages, in fact I haven’t really done much with my nails in ages apart from paint them one colour so, to make myself feel better, I decided to give it a bit of a go and try some dots and lines. Mainly because I just had no idea what I was going to do when I started out so starting with them as a base is always easy to build on rather than specific shapes.
I think I might need to get better at naming nail looks, I am so bad when it comes to naming anything really but I think this one fits given the names and colours I used. As I’ve also had a bit of a play around with the three Gelologoy formula Ciate polishes I used in this nail art I thought I’d do a mini review of each of them as they do seem to work very differently.
Over the past few years, since getting the first gel manicure set, I have been on the look out for gel nail varnishes that work as well as the Red Carpet Manicure ones. I should probably have given up by now but I saw the Color Club Halo Hues Holographic Polishes in the Rainbow Connection site and there was a site wide sale code at the time so I decided to go for one. I am a sucker for good holographic nails and Eternal Beauty has a gorgeous pale purple as the base colour.
I don’t know how easy Color Club are to get outside of the UK but I don’t know many places to stock it here, it seems to be an American company so maybe you guys in America will find it easier. On the Rainbow Connection website they have the holographic ones and the bottles are £16, though as they’re 15ml this isn’t a bad price for a gel colour.
Nail Stamping supplies
On Monday I did a post about the nail stamping kit and a few extras
I bought from Rainbow Connect. I was planning on waiting but my nails got to the point where I needed to do them so I decided to have a play around and have a go at nail stamping. This is my first time using any of this and I am definitely learning but I thought I’d post about it anyway, if nothing else it’ll be interesting in the future to see improvements!
I did read this post over on Mrs Strawberry Blonde for information I was recommended by Stashmatters (thanks for that, there are definitely things in there I might have had to work out the hard way!) and it’s a great post if you’re starting out with nail stamping. Definitely listen to the part about having a magazine or something for protection, I think I underestimated how messy it would be even with this! This post is pretty much seeing how it went and things I learnt along the way or what I’m going to do differently next time.
I didn’t buy much from the Boxing Day sales but I did make an order from Rainbow Connection, a site that sells indie nail polishes and nail art supplies in the UK. Not all of it is here, a few of the stamper plates haven’t got here yet, but as most of it arrived I thought I’d do a post on it. I will be reviewing pretty much all of this at some point anyway so I’ll post the rest of the stamping plates then.
For the last few years I’ve been planning on trying nail stamping, it always looks so good when other people do it and I love how intricate the designs can be even if my hands are shaky. Most of my order was for this; a nail stamper set that was on offer, some plates, a couple of nail varnishes sold for stamping and then a few extras that caught my eye. I am yet to find a good gel nail varnish company that works for me apart from Red Carpet Manicure and I love holographic nails so I bought one of the Color Club gel nail varnishes as well as a couple of non gels that were in the destashing or old stock section from Organic Farm. I hadn’t heard of them before but apparently they’re from Korea and hard to get in the UK, so even if I love them I’m not sure how easily I could get more from them but these colours are so pretty.
Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2017 brings you everything you want and you’ve had a fun New Years Eve, whether it’s out with others, staying in at home to see in the new year or falling asleep.
I don’t know what happened to 2016, not the best year as a world or me personally but it did see my blog grow and I know what I’m doing with it (kind of). I promise to get better at blogging next year but that’s for another post. Basically have a great 2017!
Also, the nails in the photo used Red Carpet Manicure Aquamarine, which I got for Christmas and wanted to play with despite originally planing a NYE themed nail look. The nail art uses my much loved Rio Professional Nail Art Pens in white and light blue. I love how sparkly the RCM colour is and my snowflakes actually turned out ok.
It’s Christmas Eve! It doesn’t actually feel like it to me, Christmas sort of snuck up in me, and I’m still doing last minute wrapping. Today is mainly full of all the fun jobs preparing for Christmas and the dinner tomorrow and I expect I’ll feel more Christmassy later but it doesn’t feel like it now. Think we’ll be watching Santa Claus: The Movie tonight, it’s a bit of a tradition. Do you guys have movies you watch in Christmas Eve or other family traditions?
With it being Christmas Eve that means the last day in most of my advent calendars, the Marks and Spencer one has an extra day for Christmas so there will be one last, shorter, post tomorrow but this is the end of another year of advent and I’ve been very happy with pretty much everything I’ve got. Today I have a few full sized products, the Marks and Spencer advent calendar has a Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm in Peppermint which I is always a good product to get in the colder weather. The Ciate Mini Mani Month today has a full sized bottle, it’s an exclusive glitter called Meet Me at Midnight, and the bottle itself is so pretty too. The Yankee Candle advent calendar has a votive candle this time and it’s in the scent Christmas Eve, very appropriate, and the Lindt chocolate is a smaller version of the chocolate Santas they do and I had to confluence photos of it out of the wrapping because it’s just so detailed.
As I know a lot of you probably won’t be reading tomorrow, if anyone’s still following this advent, I thought I’d just say Merry Christmas! And have a great weekend whether you celebrate Christmas or not!
The Marks and Spencer advent calendar has a high end skin care product, the kind it’s fun to try but would be outside my budget for a daily use product in the Studio 10 Miracle Effect Priming Serum. The Yankee Candle is the very Christmassy scented Bundle Up and the Ciate Mini Mani Month had a mini bottle of Pliés Please Me, the Gelology version of a colour that’s a light blue or grey shimmer colour with a hint of a pink duochrome that gives it a light version of a petrol look nail varnish to me.
Today’s advent calendar presents are really nice, I think I might have my New Year’s Eve nail varnish base now as I have plans for nail art and needed a good navy for a night sky and the Ciate Raincheck is pretty much perfect for this. The Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar had a great nail gift in it too with the Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File. I’ve considered getting these in the past but now I get to try one without having to spend the extra money and this is a great travel size though I’m not sure how suitable a crystal nail file would be for keeping in a bag without any protection. The Yankee Candle today is Winter Glow, I’m torn between loving this and not liking it, it seems to depend on the day and if I get the hint of pine air freshener from it. Today is a loving it day.
Finally finished all the mad dash Christmas shopping and actually have done some early birthday present shopping for the beginning of next year so I’m feeling organised for once. All that’s left is wrapping presents and the fun things you do on Christmas Eve and the day before like putting all the snacks out, and maybe sneaking some, and decorating the fake tree with the things that are slightly too broken or old for the nice tree.
The advent calendars today have some nice products, both a nail and hair care product that are supposed to help the condition of them so will be interesting to try them both and see how well they work. I have been looking for a similar hair product so it’s always good to get minis to try in that case. The Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar has a Percy & Reed Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm for using on towel dried hair and the Ciate Mini Mani Month has a Nail Saviour, a new product to help improve the condition of your nails in seven ways so till be interesting to see if it actually does everything it claims to. The Yankee Candle is another Winter Glow candle which is a nice scent and definitely one of the ones that isn’t too Christmassy and more just winter so will be a good one for after Christmas in the colder weather, if we ever get the really cold weather here.
We finally finished the decorating today when we put some old baubles on the trees outside and made a wreath for the door, a bit close to Christmas but it’s finally finished.
