I don’t think we’ve had any hair products yet this year in the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar, there’s normally a couple so this’ll be the first. It’s the Percy and Reed Reassuringly Firm Session Hold Hairspray which seems to be a fine mist, slightly less extreme hair spray that has a gentle hold and doesn’t have that look of a hair spray when it’s in your hair. A full sized can is £12 for 100ml so this 50ml travel sized spray is worth £6 and is a great size for in your handbag. I will admit I don’t use much hairspray but it’ll be interesting to try. Also, this is vegan and vegetarian friendly.
The wax tart from the Scented Seasons Shop on Etsy is the Christmas Cookie scent. This is a staple for most companies around Christmas and not one of my favourite scents, or a huge fan of overly sweet or bakery scents, but it’s often a good scent to mix in with some sharp so sweeten it up a bit and change the scent. This is part of the Twelve Scents of Christmas set which costs £15 but is also available individually for £1.25 if you want to pick individual scents.
Today I got one of the sweeter wax tarts, I do love gingerbread around this time of year and, although I’m not normally a fan of bakery scents gingerbread is one that I quite enjoy sometimes. It’s the Warm Gingerbread wax tart from the Scented Seasons Shop Twelve Scents of Christmas set from Etsy and I’m just picking them out at random to make my own kind of advent calendar. The full set costs £15 for the twelve or you can choose the scents individually for £1.25.
I haven’t had much makeup this year in the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar and today we got some more, though it’s a second mascara in the form of the Diego Dalla Palma Ciglione Mascara. To be honest I’d prefer a bit more variety and to have got something else Makeup today rather than a second mascara but it’s not one I’ve tried before. It seems to be one of those mascaras claiming to do everything, it says it’s a 5-in-1, so it’ll be interesting to try. This is a full sized product and these are worth £17.50 so it’ll be interesting to see if it works better than my standard mascara given that it’s more expensive.
Today’s advent calendar post is going to be a short one as it’s a duplicate from last year so I think I’ll be doing a second post later. Today’s a bit busy though as I’m going away for the weekend so I’m hoping to get all scheduled posts ready, it always feels a bit odd opening advent things early when I do this though!
The Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm is one that I got last year in the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar so I’m going to link to that post here so you can see my original first impressions. It’s a cleansing balm that you apply and then wipe off with a damp cloth. I’ve not tried many cleansing balms but they don’t really agree with my skin when I have so I’ll do a mini review if you want to read more on what I remember about this one. This is a 15ml jar but the standard 100ml jar costs £39 and comes with a cleansing cloth. It’s not exactly cheap but given how long this mini jar lasted last year I’d say it’s good value for money.
Today’s Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar is a perfume, and I think it’s the only perfume in the calendar. It’s a 10ml bottle of the Blood Orange scent from Shay and Blue. This is a mini version of the bottles available on the M&S website, it’s available in both a 30ml bottle for £30 or 100ml for £55 so this would be worth between £5.50 to £10 depending on which price you use. The company is definitely an affordable perfume brand and uses all natural fragrances and the 30ml bottle claims to have a pound of real fruit in there. The scent is a mix of blood orange, as the name says, and musks and leather and is on the edge of being a unisex scent to me.
The Winter Cranberry scent is today’s wax tart from the Scented Seasons Shop on Etsy Twelve Scents of Christmas set. I love having these to pick out every other day and do my own advent calendar style thing with them and so far these have impressed me. The set of twelve is £15 but they’re also available individually for £1.25 where you can pick your scents.
Day twelve and we’re nearly half way through the Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar. Today’s product was the Alpha H Liquid Gold Rose limited edition version, another skin care product but this is an exfoliating toner like a more concentrated version of a the Pixi Glow Tonic, from what I can find about it anyway. I did have the standard version of this last year in the Marks and Spencer’s advent calendar and tried it so it it’ll be interesting to see how this Rose version compares.
This bottle is 50ml, which is half the size of the regular sized product. The full sized on costs £37 so this mini bottle would be worth £18.50. I do like this style product, I get on well with the liquid exfoliates, but I know that the ones including acids can cause reactions for a lot of people. Although we’ve had a lot of skin care I quite like that, having looked at all of the things, including this means you have almost a complete skin care routine, the only thing missing is the cleanser.
No more snow today but I actually feel kind of accomplished with the things I managed to do and feeling nice and warm inside. It’s probably one of the best things about snow, besides how beautiful it is when it’s fresh, being able to curl up in the warm in front of a fire or under a blanket. Today’s wax melt has been started and it’s the Christmas Roses scent which has pretty rose petals floating in it. This is from Seasonal Scents Shop on Etsy in the Twelve Scents of Christmas natural wax tarts set (£15) which I’m using as a sort of advent calendar.
I’m always happy to get beauty tools in these Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendars as they tend to be good quality, I kind of wish there was more than the one in this year’s calendar. It’s a Sculpting Sponge from Look Good Feel Better and a pretty purple colour. I have so many of these beauty blender style sponges but I love them so I’m always happy with more. Look Good Feel Better is a charity that helps people with cancer with confidence building skin care and makeup workshops. It’s not something I particularly think of when I think of cancer charities but it’s a good cause and something I think is worth supporting. Plus the past tools I’ve had from them have been good quality so they’ve been on my list of makeup brush companies when I need new ones. This is the full sized version and costs £7.50, the only difference between this and the one you buy is the packaging it comes in.
Today was the first snow of this winter and we made the most of it! Our dog is nearly 14 and really shouldn’t get too excited but ended up running around like a puppy and I managed to make a snowman. I’ll be paying for it the next few days but totally worth it. We might be getting some more in the night but it’s probably just going to freeze so I’m crossing my fingers the road outside our house isn’t too bad as they never salt it and I have an appointment tomorrow I have to get to. Have you guys had any snow, either today or just this winter so far? Are you ever too old to make snowmen?
Onto the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar’s gift for today and it’s a small tube of Formula Innovate Radiance Reveal Peel which seems to be part of the Marks and Spencer’s Beauty range. It’s cruelty free and has the leaping bunny logo on it. This means that so far this year we’ve had more skin care than anything but this is a different kind of product and I’m intrigued by what it will do. It’s a 15ml tube and with the full sized one being 50ml and costing £17.50 I think it should be worth somewhere around £5. It’s definitely a fairly good sized sample so I’m looking forward to trying it and there’s quite a few uses from it.
Today’s been another busy day so another late Blogmas post tonight, though maybe it’s a better time for some of you as it seems to be getting more views on my later posts. The Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar gift for today is another staple of beauty gift sets year round in a bottle of nail varnish, I think this is the first of two in this advent calendar. This is a full sized Nails Inc One Coat Gel Finish nail polish in the colour Molten Star. It’s a warm coppery gold that looks like it has tiny holographic shimmer particles in it but I can’t actually find it for sale in any store online so maybe it’s an exclusive. If you do want it though there are a few people listing them on eBay for £5 to £10. The range in general is £13 for this 10ml bottle and it’s a nice colour for all year round so will be interesting to see how good this one is.
Pink Pomegranate is one of those scents that I’ve never heard of before this Christmas but it seems like maybe it’s a standard Christmas scent. Have any of you guys heard of it? Maybe I’ve just missed it every year. These wax tarts, the ones I’ve tried so far, have a good throw and last pretty well. They’ve been burnt for 6 hours and still smelling pretty strong cold when I took them out of the burner. This is from the Scented Seasons Shop on Etsy. It’s not technically an advent calendar, it’s a set of all twelve Christmas scents they do, but I’m picking them out at random every other day so it kind of is.
Today’s gift in the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar is a travel sized version of the Eyeko Black Magic Mascara. I can’t remember if I’ve tried this one before, I know the liquid eyeliner pen was in last year’s and I liked that, it seemed good quality so I’m happy to have more from them, even if I do already have so many black mascaras. The full sized tube is 8ml for £19, this tube is 4ml so it’s got about £9.50 of product and these travel sized mascaras always last ages for me. I’ve tended to find that I end up throwing them out because the time is up on keeping mascara or they’ve dried out rather than running out of product.
I can’t believe it’s a week into December, or over a week in, and we haven’t got our Christmas tree up yet. I’m not opening one of the wax tarts today because I still haven’t burnt the one from a couple of days ago so it’ll be tomorrow for the next one. I’ll probably end up having three or four of them nearer to Christmas. I think this is going to be the latest post for blogmas, sorry it’s so late! A mix of poor internet and trying to get things done I was going to do yesterday alongside today’s things to do meant everything didn’t go to plan today! Also, wow WordPress on the iPad has changed, this may take ting used to. I may have accidentally pressed publish before I’d finished this post just now, oops!
I thought I’d change the name of these, I don’t know why but I kind of prefer calling it blogmas than advent. I’ve wanted to start to include more blog like posts so this seemed like a good time to start it. Today was mainly spent recovering from the weekend and then waiting in hospital for an appointment so sorry this post is a bit later than I meant to!
I think today’s gift in the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar is one f the ones that I was most looking forward to trying. It’s the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the shade Perla which is a pale or mid tone pinky nude, one of those my lips but better kind of colours for me. This year I’ve discovered liquid lipsticks after finding some that actually work for me and don’t leave my lips dry so I’m always up for trying a new company’s version of it. This is a travel size, the full size costs £16 and holds 3ml compared to this 1.5ml so it’s probably £8 worth in here but these travel size ones always last me ages, I am yet to actually finish a travel sized liquid lipstick.
It’s the second of the wax tarts today from the 12 Scents of Christmas set of wax tarts from Scented Seasons Shop on Etsy. It’s a set of their twelve Christmas scents in wax tarts, I’m just picking them out at random from the box, the box costs £15 for the 12. Today’s random pick is the Christmas Time wax tart and the first with bits in. I haven’t put it to melt yet, my wax tart burner is currently behind a pile of decorations in boxes so it’ll have to wait, but it’s a very strong Christmassy scent so I’m really looking forward to it. I’m not sure if I’ll leave the bits to float around in it or get them out, I’ll see. The throw from the last wax tart was great, it even went outside the fairly large room it was burning in, and this is a stronger scent when cold so I’m hoping it does as well too.
