Decluttering Part Two: Lip Products

lipdeclutterheader.jpg

Over the years I’ve tried so many different lip products, I want to like lipsticks and colours but it seemed to take a lot of failures to find the best makes for me. Most of these lip products are from those failures, though again I seem to have a lot from free sets or sets I bought for other products in them. I do love reading declutter posts, there’s something about getting rid of a lot of products that you’re not using that just feels so satisfying and reading and watching others declutter always helps me, though I’m not always the most ruthless.

I did do a bit of a declutter of my eyeliners and you can find the post for that here. As with that post if I’ve done a review or first impressions of any of these lip product I’ll put a link to them. I don’t think I have for many as a lot of these I had before I started my blog two and a half years ago, which shows how old they are and some of them should probably be going on age alone.

Review:  No7 Matte Lip Crayon in Raspberry Red

This No7 Matte Lip Crayon was part of a free set if you bought something from their beauty line though it is also a full sized product available from the Boots website, here. The full sized version sells for £9 though I can’t find the amount this holds. This product is the mini size but it’s the same formula and is in the colour Raspberry Red which, to be honest, is not a name I would have put with this colour as it’s a lot more muted and less pink than I’d expect from that. I’m almost considering checking in store to see that it definitely is the same colour as the product itself has no name on it but other swatches for the product look like this so I guess it’s just an odd naming choice.

Semi Matte Lipsticks: Sleek MakeUP Vs Models Own

modelsownvssleek6.jpg

Since getting the semi-matte lipsticks from Models Own I wanted to do a comparison to the Sleek ones that were released early this year. I don’t have all of the colours from both ranges but I do have some and wanted to see what they were like side by side. I have compared everything I could think of to compare, though I have done actual reviews for each of the colours I have, you can find the Sleek ones here (the original colours) and here (The Whimsical Wonderland colours) and the Models Own ones from the Dare to Bare collection here.

At the moment the only Models Own colours I can find in this range are the Dare to Bare collection colours, though if they’re popular I would imagine that their range will increase in the future and I’m not sure how permanent the Dare to Bare collection is. Sleek currently have twelve in their permanent line alongside three in each of the two most recent collections.

What I Have in My Travel Makeup Bag

travelmakeup1

I did a post about the things I took in my makeup bag for travel over a year ago but I thought I’d do another after going away last week. Some of the things I didn’t use but it’s going to be the same things I’m taking away for family meetups and things in the lead up to Christmas so it seemed like a good time to post one anyway. I’m not normally too bad at packing light when it comes to makeup but I was surprised when I unpacked it all how much I took this time. I tend to go for taking only a few kinds of products but a range of colours in them.

I think that most of these things I’ve posted a review for so I’ll link it if I have so there’s a more in depth post on them and proper swatches if you’re interested in them. Almost everything is still available in stores, I think only the eyeliners might be hard to find but I haven’t found any that I like as much, I am on the lookout for a nice soft bronzey or gold colour if anyone has any suggestions though.

Review: The Balm Meet Matte Hughes Mini Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick Set

meetmattehughes7

I don’t normally go for bright lip colours, I have been trying to work on this as I do love the look of a bright red lip I just haven’t been able to find any that I love. In a recent online order from HQ Hair I found they have a few products form The Balm and this Meet Matt(e) Hughes Mini Set was a bit of an impulse buy as it was on offer at 10% off as well as another offer on top at the time so for six colours to try out it seemed a good price. It’s still £19.35 there (RRP £21.50) though the second offer isn’t on any more.

There are six colours in this set and they’re all The Balm’s long-lasting lipsticks, they’re liquid and have a matte finish and I’d say that all of the colours in this set are more on the red side, there aren’t any pinks and even the brighter coral colour is a reddish coral. The six colours are: Charming, Sincere, Committed, Doting, Dedicated and Loyal and they’re available full sized, though HQ Hair only has some at £12.15 Debenhams has the full range at £13.50 if the shade you want isn’t there or you want to see them in person. The minis in this set have 1.2ml in them whereas the full sized products are 7.2g so in the end it would be cheaper if you wanted just one colour to get the full sized product, when you look at £ per ml, I like the fact you get a range of colours to try out this way or it’d make a nice little gift. There will be reviews of each colour so if you’re looking at one of these in particular you can scroll past the others.

Review: Models Own Dare to Bare Semi-Matte Lipsticks

daretobarelipstick12

Recently Models Own released a Dare to Bare collection which includes an eyeshadow palette, nail varnishes, semi-matte lipsticks and a pressed powder all in neutral colours. It seems like the semi-matte lipsticks are a product that have been released by different brands, I already have one some by Sleek so I thought it would be interesting to see what the Models Own version was like.

I chose two of the semi-matte colours, there are five in total, the ones I picked are 03 Kiss and 05 Naked, both of them are fairly light and are ‘my lips but better’ kind of colours. The colours appear very differently online to in person and vary quite a bit between the Models Own website and the ASOS one where I bought them. The ASOS website is a lot closer to the colour in person than their own site as they appear darker on the other site. These cost £6.99 each and have 4.5g (0.16oz) of product in them.

Recent Purchase: Lush Online

lushpurchases1

This post is kind of a mix of first impressions, a recent purchases haul kind of post and some mini reviews as I bought a mix of new things to me and old favourites. I’m going to go into more detail with a couple of them in the future when I’ve tried them out some more. Two of them are from the Lush Kitchen which means they’re limited edition, the one is online only but the other is available in Lush Oxford Street store if you live near there.

In this order I bought the Olive Branch shower gel in the 250g size, the Self Preserving Dream Cream and a 250g chunk of Dream Wash from the permanent line as well as the Comforter Shower Jelly and the Perspective lipstick which is the one from the Oxford Street store. There is a version of Perspective available on the website, it’s in the original Emotional Brilliance glass bottle style packaging, but this is the more solid stick lipstick style, I’m not sure how they compare but just to know this exact product isn’t available online any more.

Review: Sleek Makeup Whimsical Wonderland Limited Edition Lip VIP Lipsticks

whimsicalwonderlandlipvips1

Recently Sleek released their limited edition Whimsical Wonderland collection which included an eyeshadow palette, three Lip VIP semi-matte lipsticks and three gel blushes. I did a post on the All the Fun of the Fair eyeshadow palette if you want to see that and will be doing one on the gel blush I bought as well on Friday so I’ll add the link here then.

I bought all three of the Lip VIPs as I liked the formula of the permanent line colours and these just looked so bright and I do have a bit of a weakness for purple lipsticks even if I rarely wear them. The three shades are Big Shot (light purple), Fancy Pants (coral) and Hot Tottie (bright pink) and they’re all very different to any of the colours in the permanent range. These cost £5.49 each and can be found on the Superdrug and Sleek Makeup websites, though they’re in a two for £10 offer at the moment in Superdrug along with some other Sleek things so it’s worth getting them from there if the offer’s still on when you look.

Review: Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Nudes Collection Lipsticks

nudescollection1

I haven’t seen the Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker collections until last week so I think they’re a fairly new release. There’s three separate collections, one for pinks, one of reds and one that’s all nude colours. Each collection has eight colours in it and these include three different finishes; satin, matte and shiny. I have a feeling I will be getting more of these but to start with I got two from the Nudes Collection, a matte called Super Nude and a shiny finish called Barely Pinking. Unfortunately the first time I opened the Super Nude I managed to drop it and the tip broke before I could photograph or use it, don’t you just hate it when that happens?

These lipsticks are similar to the Sexy Mother Pucker lipsticks that have been available for a while, I think each of these finishes was available too. At the moment these are included in the buy one get one half price offer at Boots and they cost £9 each. I’ve only had these for a few days but I’ve given each of them a proper try with eating and drinking and seeing how well they last.

Recent Purchases: Boots.com

bootspurchases1

I know I did another recent purchases post earlier this week, I would have saved this one until next week but I’m not sure how long the Soap and Glory tin is going to be available and I think it’s a pretty god offer so wanted to show you guys what’s in it. I did go into a Boots store earlier this week and there was a display for the Soap and Glory Sweet Ten-Tation but someone in front of me got the last one as I walked through the door so if you want to get one in store you might want to be quick or just order it online may be easier as you can still pick them up in store. I got all of these things on the Boots website.

I didn’t realise that Boots had done their version of the Beauty Blender, or kind of anyway, and with the price difference I wanted to try it and the Real Techniques sponge as I’ve been recommended it in the past. Also, getting these things I now have enough Boots points to get the original beauty Blender with them anyway so I can compare them in the future some time. I also didn’t know about the Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker lipsticks, there’s a Nudes Collection, a Pinks Collection and a Reds Collection with eight colours in each with three different finishes. I am definitely going to be getting more in the future but I thought I’d go with two from the Nudes Collection to start with as they’re buy one get one half price at the moment.
