Review: Soap and Glory The Rushower Dry Shampoo

therushowerheader.jpg

Soap and Glory recently released a dry shampoo, The Rushower, which is available in two different sizes. The smaller travel size, which is 50ml, costs £2.50, with the larger 200ml spray costing £4. Being a fan of Soap and Glory and always on the look out for a good dry shampoo I had to try it. At the time only the smaller size was available but I actually quite like this size, it’s perfect for throwing in a handbag or for travel.

The dry shampoo has the original pink scent, it has a bright citrus and slightly floral scent to me. It’s definitely very perfumey and it reminds me a lot of the Lsuh Snowshowers family of products, that’s a buck’s fizz type scent, for some reason. This dry shampoo has scent release technology that means there are particles that contain scent and the friction from running your hand through your hair is supposed to release the scent, meaning you get the scent a while after you’ve sprayed your hair making it smell fresher for longer. That’s the idea anyway so I was intrigued to see if that would actually work.

Recent Empties

mayemptiesheader.jpgI always forget to keep my empties, I start off the month meaning to keep them and then a few weeks in I’ve either forgotten to keep them or got fed up with the clutter and thrown them out. This month, or rather over a month now, I remembered so here’s a post of (almost) everything I used up in April and May so far. I say almost because I’m sure I’ve got rid of some empties just because I forgot.

I didn’t realise until I got them all together how many things I’d actually finished, or how many hand creams I’d had on the go at the same time. I always find that I go ages without finishing anything because they’re big bottle or pots and I’m part way through, but then everything finishes at once so if I did these regularly there would probably be months of a few products going each month and then a big lot like this.

Review: Dr Organic Moroccan Argan Oil Hair Treatment Serum

arganhairserumheader.jpg

I’ve had this hair serum for a while and it’s become one of my everyday hair products. I originally got it in the boxing day one penny sale on the Holland and Barrett website which is essentially buy one get one free but you buy one product in the offer and get another for 1p. This came as part of a set with a shampoo and conditioner and was the 1p item I chose, though I did get the set mainly for this one product. This hair serum is available as a product on its own and costs £14.99 for the 100ml bottle, the same size as this one, so I’d recommend getting it by itself unless you can get the set in a similar sale to the one I did.

Dr Organic is a cruelty free company that makes skin care and hair care products and is sold exclusively at Holland and Barrett, in the UK anyway. This Moroccan Argan Oil Hair Treatment Serum is supposed to reduce frizz, soften, restore and nourish hair and is used after washing your hair and towel drying it so it protects your hair as it dries. It can also be used on dry hair, just not as much, to protect your hair and reduce frizz, though I haven’t tried it yet.

Fortune Cookie Soap Box: Be Our Guest Spring 2017

The Fortune Cookie Soap Soap Box for the Spring collection arrived on Friday. Though I was away for the weekend so didn’t post on it it also means I’ve had a bit of a play around with most of it to see what I think. Fortune Cookie Soap are a company based in the USA who make bath and body prod icy stone with their signature being the Soap in the shape of a fortune cookie, as you may have guessed. They release a Soap Box full of different products as a preview for their quarterly collections. These are available internationally though postage does put the price up if you’re outside the US.

This Spring the theme is ‘Be Our Guest’ so it’s Beauty and the Beast themed as well as most of the products being more spring like scents. It isn’t available at the moment but it will be launched on February 17th at 6pm CST (midnight in the U.K.) and I definitely recommend either getting there at the time of release or waiting a bit as they sell out fast but do normally get restocked.

Advent 2016: Day 19!

The advent calendars today have some nice products, both a nail and hair care product that are supposed to help the condition of them so will be interesting to try them both and see how well they work. I have been looking for a similar hair product so it’s always good to get minis to try in that case. The Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar has a Percy & Reed Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm for using on towel dried hair and the Ciate Mini Mani Month has a Nail Saviour, a new product to help improve the condition of your nails in seven ways so till be interesting to see if it actually does everything it claims to. The Yankee Candle is another Winter Glow candle which is a nice scent and definitely one of the ones that isn’t too Christmassy and more just winter so will be a good one for after Christmas in the colder weather, if we ever get the really cold weather here.

We finally finished the decorating today when we put some old baubles on the trees outside and made a wreath for the door, a bit close to Christmas but it’s finally finished.

Advent 2016: Day 16!

Today was mince pie baking, something that always makes the house smell of Christmas, at least to me, so it really feels like the lead up to Christmas now. I know mince pies are a fairly stereotypically British Christmas thing but do people in other countries eat them too? Or does your country have something that’s ‘unusual’ as a food for around the holiday season? It’s something I’ve wondered as I only really see the German foods in local supermarkets and some Italian maybe but I have no idea if they’re Christmas food or just something we have at Christmas as something different and I see the more American foods in to shows and movies but I don’t know much about anywhere else.

I’ve mentioned before about my love for purple, especially when it comes to nail varnish, so today’s Ciate Mini Mani Month nail varnish in Chain Reaction is definitely a good one for me being a metallic shimmery royal purple. The Marks and Spencer present is one I’ve had before a couple of times, I think once in a beauty box and the other in last year’s calendar and it’s the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer which seems a staple in beauty subscription boxes. The Yankee Candle today is Spiced Orange, probably the least Christmassy of the scents to me so these are actually mainly being kept until after Christmas as I have more tea lights than I need in the run up to it.

Advent 2016: Day 14

Today was meant to be a productive day but I’m still recovering from the weekend so it’s turned into more of a duvet, chicken soup and stream watching day. It’s so frustrating when you have plans and things to do and your body decides it does not want to cooperate but it seems like everyone is getting ill so I’m being more careful and hoping to avoid that!

I think today’s is one of the big hits in the advent calendar, both in size/weight and popularity in the Marks and Spencer calendar. When I was looking up reviews of some of the products in the M&S calendar when I had the list of products this is the one that seemed to be getting the best reviews and was one of the must have products so I’m very happy to open this one. It’s the Nuxe Huile Prodigeuse which is a multi use dry oil so I’ll have to have a play around and see how it works best for me. The Cuate nail varnish today from the Mini Mani Month is Pretty in Putty, a nice pale neutral colour, and the Yankee Candle has Bundle Up as its tea light and this scent is definitely growing on me throughout the month.

Advent 2016: Day 5!

Day five and I may have spent half an hour attaching string to baubles today. Why don’t they sell them with the string already on them? I know some do but I have a pack of 100 that don’t and this takes way too long and does not help with the Christmas spirit feeling. I am loving how many people I’m subscribed to on YouTube are doing vlogmas, or something similar, this year. That along with the Yogscast Jingle Jam is adding even more advent style goodness with daily videos. Do you guys watch vlogmasses? Is that even a word? Any recommendations on ones to watch?

Onto the advent calendars and I’m very happy with today’s, partly because I do love trying new hair products as mine takes pretty much anything you throw at it so they never go to waste, and because it’s finally the day for the Gelology top coat! The Marks and Spencer advent calendar had a bottle of Josh Wood Radiant Shine Hair Treatment Oil, something I am looking forward to trying and I’ll definitely do a full review of this in the future. The Ciate Mini Mani Month has a mini bottle of the Gelology Top Coat and the Yankee Candle tea light for today was Bundle Up. I’m really loving having these to burn each day, they’re big enough that they last for an afternoon or evening and they melt all the wax at the same time so they’re a bit like a wax tart and the scent seems to throw better than with other scented tea lights I’ve had. I also just realised that my iPad has been autocorrecting Gelology to geology every time without me noticing. Oops!

It’s Nearly December! I May be More Excited Than I Should Be About This

adventcalendars1

In the lead up to Christmas I may get slightly more excited by the idea of advent calendars than a grown up really should but with all of the options out there now, besides the chocolate ones, I think it’s acceptable, maybe buying three was less so though. I was originally planning on doing a post with information on a lot of the different advent calendars available but I got a bit overwhelmed by the range out there and all the different release dates so I missed that post this year, sorry guys.

However I have bought three advents calendars, one with Boots points but it’s still buying I guess, and as the latest of the bunch has arrived I thought I’d do a post on the ones I have. This post will contain spoilers in the form of a list of the products in there but, as I’m going to be good and open them as advent calendars, I haven’t got photos up of the products yet. I will be doing a daily post through December until the 24th with photos and first impressions posts as I have the past two years so if you want to see a bit more on any of these then check back in December.

Recent Purchases: Holland and Barrett

hollandandbarrett1

Before this year I didn’t really buy anything in Holland and Barrett, but after finding the Dr Organic Snail gel range I’ve ended up trying other things from there more. I did a small order, mainly to replace the Dr Organic things but I saw some other bits I wanted to try, I did manage to forget the face masks I originally meant to order as they have some really nice sounding ones on there.

Apart from the two Dr Organic things I haven’t tried any of these before and I haven’t actually heard of any of them before doing the search on the Holland and Barrett site. A while ago I did a pot about travel sickness and someone recommended the ginger sweets from Holland and Barrett so I got a pack of them, the chewy ones as they were the cheapest and said they’re for travel sickness. I also thought I’d give some of the hair care products as I’ve always had a flaky scalp and will always try a new thing for that as most of the others don’t seem to work at all. The couple of beauty products are ones I’ve never heard of seen before but I was intrigued by the one and am trying to find a good foundation. It’s a bit of a mix of everything in here.
