Fortune Cookie Soap: Through the Wardrobe Winter Soap Box

fcs2016winter1

It’s November and that means it’s the time of year when all the Christmas ranges are announced and released. It’s also time for the Fortune Cookie Soap Soap Box as the pre-release for the Christmas collection. If you haven’t heard of them Fortune Cookie Soap are an American company that sell bath and body products, with their signature product being a soap in the shape of a fortune cookie.

Their Soap Boxes are a quarterly subscription box that includes a range of products in all of the scents in the collection. They normally have a secondary theme alongside the general seasonal one and this Christmas it’s Narnia, which I love as I read those books a lot when I was growing up. This time there are eight scents all in this theme and this box has eight different products, including the full-sized fortune cookie soap and a hand sanitizer which you get in each box.

Review: Models Own Dare To Bare Hypergel Nail Varnish Collection (Or Some of it)

daretobarenails2

Models Own recently released the Dare to Bare collection, one full of products with neutral colours. These include Hypergel nail varnishes, an eyeshadow palette, semi-matte lipsticks (I reviewed a couple of them here) and a finishing powder. I love nude nail varnishes, especially in autumn, and I bought three out of the five nail varnishes available. The three I chose are Deep Tan, Skin Deep and Emperors Clothes, mainly because these three were the only ones available on ASOS at the time. These are available, along with the other two in the collection, on ASOS where they’re currently in an offer at £3.50 and all five can be found on the Models Own website where they cost £4.99 each.

Not to do with the nail varnishes but I bought these from ASOS, one arrived broken as you may see the remains of the nail varnish itself on the bottles. I have to say that the customer service I got was great, even when the form accidentally sent twice so I ended up with two conversations for a while. I got a replacement ,though unfortunately the wrong one first try so had to have a second one done, and it was all sorted within a week. Basically thumbs up for ASOS when it comes to sorting problems and I’d recommend them over Models Own due to problems in the past.

Review: Models Own Diamond Luxe Nail Varnishes

diamondluxe1

This isn’t the post I had planned for today but as I went into Tesco and found these nail varnishes at such a great price I thought the sooner it’s out the better! At the moment the Tesco near me has quite a few beauty lines reduced, I’m guessing to clear. They’re in baskets so there’s a bit of digging around to find the right colour if you want lipstick of blush but it had brands I didn’t even know they sold, like Models Own and Sleek and covered nail varnishes, blush, eyeshadows, bronzers and mascaras. I don’t know if these are end of the line products but if you have a Tesco with a decent sized beauty section it might be worth going in over the next few days if you want some bargains. They were mainly Revlon, Models Own and Collection but there were others mixed in there. You do have to check anything that’s not got one of those tear seals as quite a few of the lip products were obviously tested but it was pretty much half price from the things I looked at.

Anyway, onto the actual products I’m talking about in the post. I think that the Diamond Luxe range may be an older one from Models Own, it’s not one I particularly noticed when it was launched but in person the colours are so pretty I had to stop myself from getting a couple more. They all appear to be a cream finish but they have tiny shimmer particles in, most of them gold but the turquoise colour I bought has turquoise shimmer in, the gold isn’t obvious at all on the nails even if you can see it in the bottle. The colours that I chose are Trillion Taupe, Pear Purple and Emerald Green.

These are originally £4.99, like all Models Own nail varnishes, but I bought them for £2.50 and they were all sealed and in good condition. They didn’t have the whole range and some of the colours they had aren’t available any more but the nude taupe colour is still on their website here at £4.99 if you like the colour and can’t get to a Tesco. I think the others I have and that were in store might be the more summer colours as there was a pale blue too, which I kind of wish I’d bought now.

Review: Models Own Soft Pop Summer Nail Varnish Collection

softpop2 I am loving the colours of this summer’s nail varnish collections, the neon pastels, which sounds an odd combination, just work so well for me. It seems like some of the colours are pretty much in every collection, there are greens, blues and purples in all of them I’ve seen so far but the other colours do vary a bit. Models Own have released a collection of five and, as I wanted to get a pale blue and a green anyway, I decided to get the complete Soft Pop collection.

The colours in this collection are Lemon Popsicle (yellow), Cosy Posy (green), Sugar Rush (blue), Lilac Flush (purple) and Candy Floss (pink). They are part of the Hyper Gel range which, I think, are their nail varnishes that have that gel finish appearance without being gel nail varnishes. These are 14ml (0.47 fl oz) bottles and cost £5 each. I bought these on the Models Own website but I expect Superdrug to have them some time, they seem to have a lot of the Models Own range on there, just a bit delayed.

Review: Some Things from the Marauders, Mugwumps and Muggles Collection from Shiro Cosmetics with Bonus Sugar Plum Harry

shirocosmeticsharrypotter1

I recently bought some things from Shiro Cosmetics, an indie brand that sells makeup with a geeky theme to it. One of the collections available at the moment is the Marauders, Mugwumps and Muggles Collection inspired by Harry Potter. This includes a bronzer, highlighter, lip products and loose eyeshadows. At the moment there’s also a limited run of another Harry Potter themed eyeshadow in Sugar Plum Harry which was first available last December so I’m including that in here too, though it’s not part of the collection.

In the order I bought the two lip glosses and the Sugar Plum Harry, the other three products were free samples but as they belong in the collection I thought I’d review them as well as there is enough in these small bags to use them a few times. The lip glosses are Shiro Cosmetics Every Flavour Lip Gloss, a gloss that has different flavours depending on the batch, and Felix Felicis, a gold glitter. The two eyeshadows from the collection are That’s Chess and Metamorphmagus and the final product from the collection I have is the bronzer in Milk Chocolate Frog.

Recent Purchases: Sally’s Nail Varnishes

sallyshaul1

This wasn’t really a planned purchase, or I guess part of it was, but today I had a bit of a shopping trip to the local Sally’s and bought some nail varnish. I haven’t really kept up with the summer collections this year, in the past I’ve been looking up the bigger brands as they’re released and creating lists of the ones I’ve wanted, though hardly ever actually buying anything from them. This year I avoided it and ended up coming away with three of the summer nail polishes, two from the OPI Retro Summer Collection and one from the Red Carpet Manicure Escape to Paradise Collection.

If you don’t know what Sally’s is, it’s a store that sells a lot to people in the beauty industry so they have products on sale at reduced prices compared to the RRP. It’s mainly nail and hair products but they do have quite a few skin and face products too. The main reason I like them though, is that you get to see the gel nail varnishes in person before you buy them. I have never found any Red Carpet Manicure products in any physical shops in the UK. I have seen a couple of other brands but when I bought them they didn’t work with my light very well so I’ve stuck with RCM and it’s great to be able to see what they look like rather than relying on a computer screen version. You can find their website here, though I have had some problems with it loading so I can’t find the actual products.

Recent Purchases: All the Things

recentpurchases1.jpg

I did originally try to list the places I bought from in this post as I thought I’d put all my most recent purchases in one place but the title got ridiculously long. I did originally think of doing one or two of these separately but then I realised they were all arriving near each other and it would mean it was later for me to post any of the reviews and I’m really looking forward to some of these products. This post has a combination of orders from Amazon, ASOS and Superdrug but there’s also a couple of things I won on the village fete tombola that I thought I’d throw in here as well.

As you can see from the photo this post covers a lot of different things, most of them I’ll be posting about on here some time in the near future. Most of them are beauty products but there’s some DVDs and books thrown in there too.

Recent Purchases: Fortune Cookie Soap Man With a Box Collection

manwithabox1

A while ago Fortune Cookie Soap did a Doctor Who themed collection, though it sold out so fast I didn’t get to buy any of it. They then did a sort of pre-order one where you ordered what you wanted and they made it. There were quite a few products in this collection and I did have more in my basket originally but the postage was so high it was getting to be £40 for postage alone, I ended up getting it down to four products from the range and one from the permanent line.

Other than the permanent product, the tea tree solid shampoo, the rest of these aren’t available at the moment but as there is an off chance they may bring it back at some point, they seem to do this with the most popular products appearing for a limited time a while after they were first released, I thought I’d do a mini review sort of thing for each one. I also find that most of their product types are fairly consistent so if you’re curious about their shower jellies then the way this one behaves is likely to be similar to others in the same product type. Unfortunately I have found it difficult to find anything with an actual scent description for these so I’m just going by what I smell, I’m not sure how accurate it will be to what it’s supposed to smell of but I’ll give it my best shot.

Review: Morgan Taylor Po-Riwinkle and Warriors Don’t Wine

morgantaylor1

A couple of weeks ago I went to Sally’s Express for the first time, it was recommended by a local hairdresser and we mainly went to get hair things but I saw the price of the nail varnishes and had to get some. I bought four as they are in a buy three get one free offer but the two I’m reviewing today are the ones by Morgan Taylor. These are also in the Kung Fu Panda 3 Limited Edition Range so I’m not sure how easily available they are elsewhere or how long they’ll be available but they seem to be in a lot of places in the UK at the moment.

The two colours I chose are Po-Riwinkle and Warriors Don’t Wine as I’ve been looking for some similar colours to two I have and love already. The Sally’s site seems to be down at the moment (or not working for me) but these cost around £5 if you can use a salon discount or I think they were around £10 without which is cheaper than they seem to be normally. Marks and Spencer are having an offer where they’re £8.80 but I can’t see these exact colours in it.

De-Cluttering My Makeup

decluttering1

I’m pretty good when it comes to not buying too much makeup or body products, I might have quite a lot of loose pigments from Shiro Cosmetics and eyeshadows palettes but I’m going through my makeup collection every so often to make sure it doesn’t build up. I always make sure that all of my makeup will fit inside one drawer and all of my perfume and nail varnishes fit inside another. I know I have more than I need but I like collecting the makeup and I don’t go over the top with most things.

This week as I haven’t been feeling good I decided to get the couple of tray things I keep my makeup in and sort through them, does anyone else find that clearing things out and sorting through things makes you feel more refreshed? Other than a few things, which I will say as I go along, I am not actually throwing these things out, they’re going to be offered to people and some of them possibly put on eBay in a while when I’ve got some more things from my room when I sort it better.

I have recently ended up watching a lot of decluttering videos on YouTube as well so I think that inspired me a bit. Like with a lot of those YouTubers I watch most of these things I am getting rid of because I have dupes that I prefer or that I have simply not used them in so long or I like them but they aren’t me. I’ll stop giving an explanation and get on with it.
