Review: Lush Christmas Sweater Bath Bomb

In a recent haul I bought a range of the current Christmas products from Lush, the first of the new products that I’ve tried is the Lush Christmas Sweater Bath Bomb (£4.50). It’s a slightly warmer winter scent, great for cold days when you want a hot bath to warm you up, but has a hint of a sweet citrus in there for me too.

I have to say that I really like the look of this one and it’s a fair sized product too, it’s one of the larger style bath bombs, like fizzbanger or the dragons egg that they’ve had in their permanent line. You could definitely get two baths out of this no problem, if you can manage to break it in two, though you would lose a bit of the fizzing and colours effect that you get with it whole due to the layers but I think it’s worth it to get an extra bath. It’s not the strongest scented Lush product out there but I think it’d do two baths fine.

Lush Christmas 2017

I feel like I’ve had to do this a few times recently but I’m starting this post saying sorry about another computer issue! It seems to be stuck typing \ all the time so sorry if any rogue back slashes appear in this post, I think I caught them all but one or two might sneak through! Also these photos have been taken on my iPad. Hopefully normal service will resume shortly but it may be time to admit the computer has had enough. It seems a bit like it’s one thing after the other recently doesn’t it? Anyway, on with the scheduled post!

I may not buy as much Lush any more, six years ago this blog would have pretty much been 90% Lush, but I seem to always have a bit of a weakness when it comes to their Christmas range. This year, like in recent years, they have a mix of returning favourites alongside new scents and products. I did end up getting more than I originally planned with a mix of new and old and I think I’m most interested in the newest product type of the solid shower gel, to see how it compares to the traditional bottles and their jellies.

I bought quite a range of products types, though I mainly stuck with bath products as I know some of their skin care products in the past work for me but then it’s a rush of finding a new one that works when the stash runs out. I would also say that, going by my past experiences, the shower gels and similar tend to be the most consistent when it comes to scent, bubble bars tend to be ok but dry out and lose scent over time more than they used to so try not to stash too many early on in the season.

Lush Halloween 2017

lush-halloween-2017-header

This year Lush seem to have released quite a range for Halloween, especially considering that not that long ago there were years where it was pretty last minute and they even hinted at not releasing any Halloween themed products. I only got four, and one of these seems to be in the Christmas range for some reason but it definitely feels more Halloween to me.

I decided to go for four things, to be honest the rest didn’t really appeal to me but I do like the fact that they’ve done a black lip product to go into the makeup side of the holiday. I only wish I’d managed to get one of the Ghost shower gels when they were in the kitchen and crossing my fingers they release it again as that’s one of my favourite Lush scents and definitely something Halloween themed. If you have a favourite Halloween product from the past, Calacas scented things always seem popular, then it’s worth checking out the kitchen section in the lead up to Halloween.

Fortune Cookie Soap Box: Mean Girls Themed Fall Collection

FCSmeangirlsheader.jpg

The latest Fortune Cookie Soap Soap Box arrived on the weekend so, after trying everything out, today’s post is a mini review, first impressions type post for each of the upcoming Autumn scents. Fortune Cookie Soap are an American company that make bath and body products and their signature products it, unsurprisingly, a fortune cookie shaped soap. They release seasonal collections four times a year and these Soap Boxes are full of sample sizes of the upcoming scents in a range of products alongside two full sized products. Calling them sample sizes seems a bit mean considering the amount you get, they’re great travel sized minis and even the body butters can do more than one use if you’re careful with them.

As well as the seasonal collections often having the theme of the season, they also have a second theme. This time the theme is the movie Mean Girls which, I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen in a while so some of the references may go over my head. I was surprised at how many I actually got but fans of the movie will probably recognise everything. I do love how they use in jokes as well as the more well known references when it comes to these themes.

As this is the Autumn (Fall if you’re American) collection it isn’t actually available yet, the release date is August 18th at 6PM CST, I think that’s around midnight here in the UK. It’s worth either staying up late if you want something or waiting a bit as they often restock things a couple of weeks later and things sell out so fast.

Fortune Cookie Soap Box: A Pirate’s Life For Me

FCSpiratesheader

Last Thursday the summer Soap Box from Fortune Cookie Soap arrived so I’ve had some time to play around with most of the products to see how they work. Fortune Cookie Soap are an American company that make bath and body products and, once every few months so each season, they release a main collection and you can see inscribe to their Soap Box so they send out a box full of said please and two full sized products, one in each of the upcoming scents.

Most seasons they tend to stay pretty much within the trends for that season but they also have a second theme and this one is one I love and am excited about as it’s Pirates of the Caribbean inspired with the name A Pirate’s Life for Me. You get six sample sizes and two full sized products. The ‘samples’ though are a pretty good size and you get multiple uses out if most of them, things like bath bombs and melts are one off but most have enough for multiple uses.

Recent Empties

mayemptiesheader.jpgI always forget to keep my empties, I start off the month meaning to keep them and then a few weeks in I’ve either forgotten to keep them or got fed up with the clutter and thrown them out. This month, or rather over a month now, I remembered so here’s a post of (almost) everything I used up in April and May so far. I say almost because I’m sure I’ve got rid of some empties just because I forgot.

I didn’t realise until I got them all together how many things I’d actually finished, or how many hand creams I’d had on the go at the same time. I always find that I go ages without finishing anything because they’re big bottle or pots and I’m part way through, but then everything finishes at once so if I did these regularly there would probably be months of a few products going each month and then a big lot like this.

First Impressions: Happy Place Cosmetics Solid Brush Cleanser, Bath Dusts and Lip Scrub

happyplacecosmeticsheader

Today’s review is on a few of the products from a company that I found on Instagram; Happy Place Cosmetics. I think we all have those companies we find on Instagram, the ones with the pretty products that pop up in the search when we’re scrolling. Normally they seem to be either too expensive or from America with postage and packaging that doubles the cost of the order but Happy Place Cosmetics are based in the U.K. and do a range of skin care, bath and body products as well as quite a wide range of solid brush cleansers. I do like trying indie brands and the fact they’re in the U.K. and cruelty free meant I had to at least look at them, then a few things may have ended up in my basket. Though, to be honest, I was rather restrained with this order, I could have ordered a lot more.

It was the solid brush cleansers that first caught my eye and when they had a restock of all the scents they have ever done and it included Gummy Bear I had to make an order. Unfortunately I managed to miss out on the half price offer, damn my indecisiveness, so I only got the one when I could have got two but I added a couple of bath dusts (broken up bath bombs) and a lip scrub and made an order. I may already have a second one planned, this company could turn into an expensive find.

Review: Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Shower Jelly

sugarcrushjellyheader.gif

I’m a big fan of shower jellies, though there don’t seem to be many companies that do them, and a fan of the Soap and Glory brand, especially the Sugar Crush scent, so when they released shower jellies last year I couldn’t wait to try them. I got this for Christmas and have been using it since then and there are definitely some things about it I love.

This is available from Boots, and probably other stockists of Soap and Glory, I just don’t know which they are outside the UK. It costs £5.50 though I can’t see it on the Boots website, they do have it in at least one store near me though so I’m not sure if that’s old stock and it’s not being stocked any more. There is another shower jelly in a different Soap and Glory scent though, Clean On Me, which I think is the original pink scent that you associate with the brand but the consistency is the same.

First Impressions: Lush Mother’s Day

lushmothersdayheader.gif

I recently made an order online with Lush, mainly because of the Marathon bubble bar they had in the kitchen which is sadly no longer available, and most of it is from the Mother’s Day range. I did get a couple of extras but as you can’t get them online any more this post is mainly my first impressions of the Mother’s Day products I bought. They’re still available for a while, until Mother’s Day at least, and I know that stores tend to have these seasonal items in stock beyond the date they’re available online.

I have to say that, for the past few years, I kind of went off Lush. The quality and consistency seemed to have gone downhill while the prices went up but recently they seem to be going back to the older scent strength. I also love the recent trend with their limited edition products and the citrus scents. They may not be everyone’s favourites and they don’t always have the complexity of some of the Lush signature scents but I do love a good citrus bath product.

Marathon Bubble Bar from Lush

They have different flags on the top. Picture from the lush website so copyright to them

This is a bit of an unusual post for me, I don’t often do posts about a product before I’ve actually bought it this time but I wanted to do one as the Lush Marathon Bubble Bar is one of the few products I have ever tried that has actually helped with my aches.

I just wanted to say about it as it’s limited edition in the UK kitchen so I have no idea how long it’ll be available and thought it’s worth checking out for any spoonies out there who enjoy baths.  Continue reading
