Review: Primark Get Lippy Matte Lip Kit in Cookie Dough

primarklipkitcookiedoughheader.jpg

As I am currently in the search for a good, affordable liquid lipstick this may be one of many liquid lipstick reviews coming up. There will be other reviews in the middle but I realised today how many I have bought recently and I’ve actually been excited to try them all out and write the reviews for you guys. Today’s is one of the Primark Get Lippy Matte Lip Kits, one of the ones I’ve been looking out for the most and they finally had some in stock near me.

The one I have is in the colour Cookie Dough, which is a fairly light nude, it doesn’t add any extra light or dark to my natural lip colour really, just changed the colour of it, which is nice for an everyday look to me. These lip kits contain a lip liner and a matte liquid lipstick, as with most of the Kylie style dupes, and costs £3 which makes it the cheapest one I’ve bought. I fon’t think that either of the products is available individually, though as our local doesn’t have a great range of their own beauty line I’m not sure.

With these being the cheapest I was interested to see how they’d work, they seem to have either love or hate reviews and seem to vary from colour to colour so I was crossing my fingers I got a good one.

Review: NYX Lip Lingerie in Embellishment

liplingerieembellishmentheader.jpg

The NYX Lip Lingerie range was actually the product I was most looking forward to when it comes to liquid lipsticks but for ages the colours I wanted weren’t in stock when I wanted to make an order. However, on my latest Boots order Embellishment was available so that went straight in my basket. The Lip Lingerie line cost £7 each and come in a 4ml (0.13 fl. oz.) tube.

These liquid lipsticks are a matte formula that is supposed to be highly pigmented and long lasting and feel as if you have nothing on your lips. I was interested to see if that’s true as most mattes are known for being drying so any I can find that don’t leave me wanting to use lip balm every ten minutes are always good.

Embellishment is a fairly light colour, I would say it’s on the light end of the dark colour scale, if that makes sense. It definitely seens to be one that it depends on the light you’re in, at times it looks like a sort of lavender colour, others it’s definitely a darker ‘nude’ colour with a blue or purple tint.

Nail Art: Holographic Disco Balls

Is it just me or is it really hard to photograph holographic things? My mermaid nails finally gave up after nearly two weeks, or rather the nail art bits did, the gel would probably have carried on but I felt like a change so I decided to give these disco ball nails a go. Mermaid Gossip recently did a tutorial over on YouTube for holographic disco ball nails so I thought I’d give them a go. I decided to try them on an accent nail to start with as I didn’t really have the right nail art supplies and I am so glad I did as I really don’t have the patience for doing all.my nails like this.

I’ve wanted to try and perfect the ombre or gradient nails so decided to give them a go for the others, though holographic nail varnish is apparently not the best to use for that, and a bit of negative space nail art on my thumbs. I’m always worried my nails aren’t the best condition to try that so, as I don’t think this will be the longest lasting look as I can’t find my gel top coat so had to go with standard polishes, I thought now would be a good chance to give it a go and I’m actually happy with how it ended up.

Review: Innovation Beauty 3 Brush Set

IB3brushesheader.jpg

I am so far behind with these brushes, or the style at least, I’m not sure what to call them, I’ve heard them called hairbrush style or toothbrush style so I’ll just go with both of them here. TK Maxx recently had a bit of a push with beauty products designed or made in Australia and this brand, Beauty Innovation, seems to have been one of them. I haven’t heard of them before and there isn’t much about them online, maybe some of you guys have heard of them.

This 3 Brush Set, a large linear brush, small oval brush and medium oval brush cost £19.99 about a month ago when I bought it and I can’t see it online but I know the one local to me still has some of their brushes in it so it’s worth checking out the beauty section if you’re interested in one. As I’ve had them for a month I’ve had a chance to give them a proper try and tried them in the ways they suggest as well as others and have found they work best with certain products, not necessarily the ones they recommend, but I’ll go into that more in a bit.

Review: Viseart Petit Pro Palette

viseartpetitproheader.jpg

Before the beginning of this year I hadn’t heard of Viseart, then it seemed like quite a few of the YouTubers I was subscribed to were taking about them. The larger palettes are out of my price range, at least without knowing how good the eyeshadows were, so I went for the Petit Pro Palette when I saw it was in stock on Beauty Bay. It seems like it’s no longer available, though it seems to pop up in a few sites now and then so Google might help if you’re looking for a stockist. I think the price was around £25 which seems to fit with the £20 – £30 price tag I’m finding in various sites at the moment.

This palette is definitely small, it’s the size to fit in your palm, and contains eight different colours in fairly neutral tones, I would say there’s a mix of warm and cool times but it leans more on the warm side. Half of them are matte and the other half are shimmery but verging on a metallic foil finish. It comes in a matte black card palette with a magnet closure and a small mirror so it seems like it might be a good travel palette. They also have the unusual feature of the pans being kept in the palette by magnets so they can enjoy rearranged or transferred to your favourite travel palette.

Review: New Lush 1000 Millihelens Jelly Face Mask

1000millihelensmaskheader.jpg

Another week and another face mask. I’m surprised by these Lush jelly face masks, I honestly thought they’d be a bit of a novelty product to start with but the FOMO one I tried last week made me excited to give this 1000 Millihelens Lush Jelly Face Mask a go. This one is also £4.95 for the small pot but, judging by the previous one I tried they’ll last quite a while as you really don’t need much.

The 1000 Millihelens mask is meant to target problem skin with witch hazel and green tea which seem to be common ingredients to help acne prone skin. It’s another clay based mask, though I don’t think this formula has as high percentage of clay in there as the FOMO one did. As these are jellies and self preserving there’s no need to keep them in the fridge, you simply tear a piece off, rub it between your hands and the leave it on for five to ten minutes, then wash off as you do with most traditional clay masks.

Review: Boots Essentials Cucumber Moisturiser

bootscucumberheader.jpg

This Cucumber Moisturising Cream is part of the Boots Essentials range. It comes in a 100ml tub and costs £1.50 so it’s very much a budget beauty product. Although it’s cheap and cheerful and not the best looking pot out there it’s one that I’ve used in the past and thought was discontinued so when I saw a post on some other products in the range on Mrs Strawberry Blonde’s blog I had to give it a go and see if it was as good as I remembered.

It claims to be soothing with cucumber and vitamins and is suitable as both a day and night cream. It’s definitely on the thick side for a cream and I was recommended it years ago when one of the medications we tried for my skin made it dry and cracked and it was one of the few that had an effect so I was definitely expecting it to be really moisturising and calming.

NOTD: Mermaid Nails

I’m surprised how much I missed doing nail art when I started doing this. I’ve been watching quite a bit if Mermaid Gossip over on YouTube while I was tidying so decided to go for mermaid nails. It’s very similar to the ones I did last year in this post so I won’t go into detail on how I did it but I love the finished nails. It’s not been the best weather wise but these are so bright and summery and I’m hoping the Red Carpet Manicure gel will help my nails grow.

Primark Haul: Harry Potter, Unicorns and Masks

primarkhaulheader.jpg

When I went to Primark last weekend the plan was to check out the beauty section, maybe get a couple of vest tops and see if there was anything decent in the home section. The home section was forgotten about, I need to go back for that I think, and the vests I like weren’t there so I ended up wandering around with mum and seeing what they had. This did lead to a basket full of Harry Potter and Disney things which I did manage to get down to two before we wandered over to the pyjama section and found the unicorn in the haul.

Unfortunately their beauty section in our local isn’t the best stocked, though I was impressed by the range of other brands available that weren’t there the last time I checked, and most of the makeup had obviously been poked and prodded which always puts me off. The only things that seemed safe were eyeshadows, I already have too many, and the lip kits which were available in chocolate brown or fantasy glitter. I was tempted by the sparkles but the chocolate brown was too dark for me, I might have to pop in when we go to Vodafone over the weekend and see if they have other colours then. I get the feeling that it isn’t the most popular section of the store as I was the only one looking at it and it didn’t really make me want to stop and browse.

Fortune Cookie Soap Box: Mean Girls Themed Fall Collection

FCSmeangirlsheader.jpg

The latest Fortune Cookie Soap Soap Box arrived on the weekend so, after trying everything out, today’s post is a mini review, first impressions type post for each of the upcoming Autumn scents. Fortune Cookie Soap are an American company that make bath and body products and their signature products it, unsurprisingly, a fortune cookie shaped soap. They release seasonal collections four times a year and these Soap Boxes are full of sample sizes of the upcoming scents in a range of products alongside two full sized products. Calling them sample sizes seems a bit mean considering the amount you get, they’re great travel sized minis and even the body butters can do more than one use if you’re careful with them.

As well as the seasonal collections often having the theme of the season, they also have a second theme. This time the theme is the movie Mean Girls which, I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen in a while so some of the references may go over my head. I was surprised at how many I actually got but fans of the movie will probably recognise everything. I do love how they use in jokes as well as the more well known references when it comes to these themes.

As this is the Autumn (Fall if you’re American) collection it isn’t actually available yet, the release date is August 18th at 6PM CST, I think that’s around midnight here in the UK. It’s worth either staying up late if you want something or waiting a bit as they often restock things a couple of weeks later and things sell out so fast.
