Review: TonyMoly I’m Real Red Wine Pore Care Sheet Mask

Hey guys, how’s your week been? This wasn’t my planned Friday post but I’ve been working on giving the blog a makeover, well the planning stage of it, and time kind of got away from me. I think I’ve looked at so many fonts the word sample just looks wrong to me now! This year I will actually do the makeover I planned last year, but more on that next week. 

I am trying to improve my skin care routine, and part of that is to use a face mask once a week (unless it’s one that happens to say use more regularly) and, as I have so many sheet masks I thought I’d start with one of them. If I keep up with this I’ll probably turn these into bonus weekend posts as they’re going to be short. Today’s face mask is a TonyMoly sheet mask, one of a set of eleven I bought recently from f2plus1 on eBay, and it’s the I’m Real Red Wine Sheet Mask for Pore Care. 

Although I haven’t seen any of these in the U.K. apparently some of the TonyMoly I’m Real face mask range have been spotted in TK Maxx so worth checking your local to see if they have them. Otherwise I bought mine from eBay, they are available from a range of sellers, either individually or wholesale or, as is the case with mine, as part of a set where you get one of each variety. The prices to vary depending on what you get but with the full set I think it often comes to around £1 a face mask.

The first thing I like about these TonyMoly face masks is the packaging, you won’t pick up the wrong one when looking in your storage. It’s got a cute style without going over the top with the cartoon drawing. It’s easy to open and, though I don’t read Korean, the diagram would be easily understood even without the English translation at the bottom so I think it would be one that anyone could understand, no matter what language they speak. 

I have to admit, pore care is not one of my major concerns, my pores aren’t small but they’re not overly large either. Apart from on my nose I have to look in a mirror closely to see them, maybe I just don’t know what I’m looking for! Anyway, the fact this was red wine and one of the more unusual flavours (or scents, what do you say for face masks?) was the one that drew me as the first one to try. 

My skin type is pretty hard to please most of the time, it’s a mix of dry, very dry and normal but very acne prone and sensitive so it’s hard to tick all the boxes and I find a lot of products focus on one of the problem areas. I have found that Korean skin care does seem to work well for me, I’m not sure what it is but I have less flare ups, both sensitivity and acne, when trying them over a lot of western products. So a product for pore care intrigued me, I thought it would be interesting to see how it worked for me and if red wine might be an ingredient I should keep an eye out for int he future if it really did do something.

When I opened the packaging I was half surprised it wasn’t red wine coloured, which probably sound odd as I guess most skin are isn’t the colour of the natural ingredients. It definitely has the scent of red wine though, as I don’t drink maybe I’m more sensitive to it so it might be less obvious to others but it’s not overpowering even so. It’s definitely one of the slimmer feeling face masks, which never sounds nice but I don’t know a better way of putting it. There’s a lot of the mask liquid in there, it almost felt like it would drip when I put it on my face.

Is it possible to take a photo with a sheet mask without looking like something from a horror movie?

The mask itself is really soft feeling and is a nice size, though it does have that common sheet mask problem of drooping around the mouth and falling off on the part between your nose and mouth. 

I left it on for twenty five minutes, I thought I’d go for a happy medium with the twenty to thirty minutes, and it did feel like a long time for a face mask. It stuck well throughout though I don’t think it’s one I’d be happy to wear when walking around towards the end. When I removed it there was still a lot of product in there, I’d be half tempted to keep it and try it a second time but I’m not sure how good that would be, keeping it a week I am unsealed package. 

I did find that my skin felt nice, although I didn’t really notice much difference in my pores I think maybe they were smoother on my nose. My skin texture did feel nice and smooth though and it definitely helped the slightly flaky areas I often get. Two days later my skin still feels nice. I won’t say it’s made a great lasting difference but my skin does still feel slightly smoother, even before my toner, than it does normally though I think it’s wearing off on the second day.

One thing I will say is that if you have any spots then it may be one to avoid, at least I found that after removing it there was a bit of an itch on some of the smaller ones I hadn’t even noticed I had before. I would definitely say, given that, it’s not one to risk on any scratches. I know most products say not to but often you can get away with it, I can see this one irritating anything like that.

Overall I’m pretty impressed with this. I do love a good sheet mask as they’re easy to use, no washing and mess afterwards and you can travel with them so easily. This one is definitely a good range to try, I’ll be doing reviews on the other varieties too if this particular flavour doesn’t sound like it’d suit you. I think it’s a good one for drier skin but it did seem to leave my skin feeling very moisturised which surprised me considering it doesn’t say moisturising, and maybe a bit too rich for oiler skin types. 

It definitely did more than I expected it to with my skin type and no break outs in the two days after, when I always get my reactions to these, so it’s a thumbs up from me. I hunk it has a miracle effect in pores but if you want to try something different I think it’d be a great one for a girls night in or to pamper yourself as it’s longer than a lot of other sheet masks I’ve used and there’s something about wearing a face mask with red wine that does make it feel a bit more luxurious, to me at least.
